Today's Lunch Break:
http://www.internationalwomensday.com

This started as an email to Elliott this morning, just as a subtle hint. And then I thought, women out there will be glad to know about another holiday acknowledging their contributions (and requiring flowers and small gifts). And I also thought, men out there will be glad to know about another opportunity to acknowledge women (and requiring them to give flowers and small gifts). Such a win-win.

I was in Russia when I first heard about International Women's Day (March 8th of each year). It was a big deal. "Each year Russian women anxiously await this singular day that honors them in their many dimensions," one website describes. "Hundreds of events are held not just on the 8th, but throughout March to pay tribute to women for who they are and what they've achieved."

Yes, the holiday has strong roots in the Bolshevik Revolution, but before you cry "Socialism!", take a moment to think about the women in your government, community, family history, and—most importantly—your personal life. And, while you're thinking, maybe you could also pick up some chocolates or flowers for the weekend. Just a tip.

I would like to add that you can watch this slightly irreverent (and slightly sexist) video for inspiration as you prepare for March 8th.
